Executive Director
The Knoxville Center of the Deaf (KCD) in Knoxville, Tennessee is currently seeking applications for a new
Executive Director. Please review the following job responsibilities and position requirements and apply
if you are interested. KCD is an established service organization within a large and dynamic Deaf,
DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community.
The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic, financial and operational leadership for KCD
and will closely coordinate and work with the Board of Directors.

Executive Director Primary Responsibilities Include:
1. Planning, developing, implementing and directing KCD’s operational, fiscal function and performance
2. Acting as a strategic partner by developing and implementing KCD’s community programs
3. Analyzing and offering recommendations for the implementation of creative community programs for
the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing community
4. Develop a finance leadership team by providing accurate analysis of budgets, reports and financial
trends and operational procedures in order to assist the Board of Directors
5. Create, improve, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the organization that will improve
operational and financial effectiveness
6. Communicate effectively and establish credibility throughout the community and with the Board of
Directors as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges
7. Mentor and interact with members of staff at all levels to foster growth and encourage development
among all members of the KCD staff.

5. Communicate effectively with the KCD Board of Directors, KCD administrative and interpreter staff,
and especially the Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing members in Knoxville and surrounding counties.
6. Research, write, and execute on grant opportunities.
7. Strategically build and steward relationships that lead to effective and collaborative community
partnerships, sponsor, and donor relationships.
8. Oversee special events planning and execution (e.g. virtual and in person events, etc.)
9. Demonstrate financial acumen; monitor progress toward meeting financial goals.
10. Maintain ethical standards and accountability, manage risk, perform due diligence, and implement
operational best practices.
Requirements and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (Master’s degree preferred, but not required)
2. At least 5 years of community organization service experience
3. Ability to manage a diverse staff and train and develop new employees as KCD continues to grow in
providing and community services and support
4. Fluency in American Sign Language or willingness to learn American Sign Language throughout tenure
required. If the applicant is unable to sign their progress towards learning ASL will be judged based on
the ASLPI scale with the applicant being required to pass ASLPI Advanced (3) or higher within a year of
employment.
Work Environment:
• Full-time position based in Knoxville, Tennessee. The position is a hybrid in person/remote
position located in Knoxville, Tennessee. The candidate must be locally based to provide handson leadership, engagement, and support to the community and community partners.
• The position requires some travel across Knoxville and the greater Knoxville area.
• High speed internet access required to access systems during remote work.
• The position offers some flexible hours.

Salary Expectations:
• The position is offering a compensation range of $72,000 - $82,000 annually, with the
opportunity for advancement.
