Hello everyone—Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind community, interpreter community and everyone! Welcome to my weekly Vlog. My name is Christina Vorreyer-Davis and I am executive director at KCD. Today I will discuss a few things. First, I want to elaborate on what is KCD. KCD is a non-profit organization that provides services to the deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind community and others that need partnership, support, and resources. That’s what KCD is. KCD is not an interpreting agency. Why? It is a non-profit organization, so tit does not earn for profits. That’s the difference between profits and non-profits.
Now KCD has a few upcoming events. Next week, Thursday, September 29th, at 6:30 p.m., We have a board meeting. We meet on the main floor at KCD building. I will give my first presentation on the job. I am looking forward to see you coming to the meeting to learn more about different things at the meeting. I want to remind everyone. You know you can actively participate as a community by attending the board meeting, town hall meeting to discuss your concerns. You also can vote following the Board’s procedure. There are different things you can do to change KCD’s future path. I want to remind you again. You know, the Deafhood Workshop is happening on October 8th and October 9th. Saturday, October 8th---Working into Allyship and Sunday, October 9th, Journey into Deafhood. It’s happening on Saturday and Sunday. The seats for both workshops have not reached 16 seats. However, we can offer more than 16 seats. We received an approval from the Deafhood Foundation for up to 30 seats. BUT, feel free to come, to invite your friends or colleagues to come. If you have issues, please let me know. Saturday, October 8th, Working into Allyship has RID CEU. I strongly encourage the interpreters to attend to learn, gain knowledge, and earn RID CEU. Okay. I want to add I want to add another information----we will provide food and drink. I will be there. We’ll have raffle. Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., we are hosting Fall Fest. I encourage you who have crafts, projects, programs to display or sell to reserve a booth table at $25 each table. The fund goes into KCD. We will socialize, eat, play game, and have a good time. Then on that night at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., KCD is hosting Halloween Trunk and Treat. This event is all about decorating your car and fill your trunk with treats for children to pick up. If you want to show off your decorated car, please reserve a parking space for $5. The fund goes to KCD. Go ahead and reserve. Think of different awesome ideas! We have five reserved their parking space. I will be there with our decorated vehicle. You are welcome to come! It is fun! Children dress up in costumes! Adults dress up in costumes! There will be a contest for the best costume---for children. There will be a contest for the best decorated car. There will be prizes. There will be dessert. Bring anyone—UTK students, ASL Class students, families! If you missed town hall or want to participate in town hall, the next one will be on Saturday, October 15th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at KCD in the basement. More information for November and December is coming soon! Thank you for watching. Have a great day! |
